Description
The farm buildings at Chalks Farm date from the early to mid-19th century and form a complete group around three sides of a yard. On the north side, there is a six-bay barn constructed from timber framing and weatherboarding, topped with an asymmetrical gabled roof now covered in old corrugated asbestos sheeting. The barn features a high plinth made of brick and flint walling, with two pairs of large double doors facing the yard to the south. A high brick plinth with a honeycomb brick diamond provides ventilation at the west end of the barn. Attached to this is a three-bay lean-to implement shed, which is open-fronted and has a slate roof with weatherboarded timberframe sides.
On the west side of the yard, there is a stable built from brick and flint, featuring a gabled roof covered in red pantiles and weatherboarded gables. Enclosing the east side of the yard is a lower storage range, also timberframed and weatherboarded, with a gabled red pantiled roof and two square metal ridge ventilators. This picturesque and complete group of farm buildings is listed for its group value.
