Description
Walkers Farmhouse is a house with a core dating back to the 15th or early 16th century, with a significant rebuild in the 18th century. An additional lean-to room was later added against the north front of the original cross wing. The house is timber-framed with white-stucco sills. The eastern front reveals the timber frame with white panel infill, topped by a steep thatched roof that is hipped and extends down over the north lean-to. A western range is tiled with white weatherboarding, while the north lean-to has dark weatherboarding. It is a two-story house presenting an eastern facade composed of the remaining, jettied, two-bay cross wing, which has been extended to the north and west. The east front has two windows on each floor, with three-light casement windows featuring small panes. A plank door, protected by a gabled hood, provides access through the north lean-to, where the old jetty is exposed internally. The interior reveals heavy jowled posts, cambered tie-beams, and a single-frame collar rafter roof. There are mortices indicating a former ground-floor partition, and a stair was once situated in the northwest corner. Further mortices show signs of a former four-light diamond mullioned window under the jetty, and a shutter groove for a first-floor window. The jetty features jowled posts, and the walls contain heavy studs. A large chimney at the southwest corner, adjoining the rear wing, is likely from the 18th century.
