Description
The column from Blackfriars Bridge is located in the grounds of Flint House, 40 metres east of the house in Great Amwell village. This freestanding column is from Robert Mylne's Blackfriars Bridge, which opened in 1769 and was demolished in 1868. The column was rebuilt in its current position by the Mylne family. It is made of Portland stone and features a terracotta urn on top. The column stands on two steps and is approximately 10 metres high, with a tall Ionic design that includes a moulded base and cap carved with four corner volutes. The shaft consists of seven drums and shows signs of old repairs. An octagonal swagged urn is set atop the column.
