Description
This barn, located on the south side of Fanham’s Hall Road at Newhall Green, is dated to the 16th century, with the walls being raised in the 18th century. It is constructed of timber frame with weatherboarding. Red brick infill is present in the lower portion of the west wall, which faces the yard. A gabled porch sits on the east side, located in the second bay from the south. The barn features heavy, jowled posts with tenoned rails. There are tension braces and large curved braces supporting the cambered tie-beams. A scarf joint with a face-peg is visible in the east wallplate, and a similar scarf with a loose tenon is present in the west wallplate. The 18th-century work includes framed upper parts to the walls and a clasped-purlin roof.
