Description
Holmes Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier. It has a timber frame on a brick sill, with roughcast plastering and a steep roof covered in old red tiles. The front ground floor is cased in 18th-century red brick. The house is a tall two-story building facing east, with a higher crosswing to the north and a rear section that projects. The gabled crosswing includes two stories, an attic, and a cellar, with the staircase located in the rear portion. A door is situated next to the crosswing, and a large central chimney rises through the front roof slope, creating a narrow room between the chimney and the south end. There is one window on each floor in the main house and the crosswing. The windows are 3-light flush casements, with a 2-light window in the attic. The roof features a side-purlin structure. A 3-light diamond mullioned window is visible in the north wall of the crosswing. A later internal chimney is located at the north end.
