Description
The Bull Public House, located 650 yards north of Station Road, is a building that dates back to the 18th century or earlier and was remodeled in the early 19th century. It is a two-storey timber-framed structure with a plastered exterior and a slate roof. Originally, the building consisted of two rooms arranged in a line with a central chimney and a baffle entry. It has since been extended to form an E-plan that faces the road, with a northern wing extending to the rear that features a lateral chimney. There is a projection on the rear wall that may be the base of an old lateral chimney.
The front of the building is plastered and includes bargeboards on the gables of the projecting wings, as well as a projecting plinth. The panelled pargetting has been renewed. The windows are flush boxed sash types, with configurations of 4/8 panes over 8/8 panes. The recessed centre of the facade features a similar window on each floor and two six-panel doors with moulded architraves, all beneath a three-bay timber verandah. There is also a single-storey extension to the south with a slate roof.
Inside, the ground floor has chamfered cross beams in the centre and cased beams in the northern wing. There is a cellar beneath the southern part of the building, and the bar in the northern wing features a moulded dado. The Bull Public House is described as a picturesque roadside inn.
