Description

Aldbury Baptist Chapel, built in 1836 for Ann Hall, who was the publican of the Trooper Inn, is located at the rear of number 39 on Stocks Road. The chapel features yellow stock brick and slate roofs, and is a tall single-storey building that faces north, making it largely hidden from view from the road.

At the west end of the front wall, there is a small low single-storey extension with a chimney and a monopitch roof that slopes down from a tall rear wall. The northern front has windows at two levels, a central entrance, and two upper windows. Originally, there were two lower windows, but the right-hand window is now obscured by the extension. The recessed sash windows have 4/8 panes above and 8/8 panes below, with the lower windows featuring red cambered arches. The central door has a round-headed red arch, a plastered tympanum, and a pair of 6-panel flush-beaded doors.

On the eastern side of the extension, there is a 6-panel door and a recessed sash window with 8/8 panes, both set under cambered arches. Inside, the chapel has a plain interior with a plastered ceiling, a central ventilator, a matchboard dado, and pine pews arranged to face west. There is a chimney on the rear wall for an off-centre fireplace. The exterior of the southern wall is tile-hung, and the western wall is said to retain the flint and brick footings of a barn that previously occupied this site.
