Description
The Old Lodge is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a brick front added in the early 19th century. The building features an exposed timber frame with painted brick infill only at the rear and a plastered south gable end. The front is made of plum brick and has a steep old red tile roof. It is a two-storey house with a basement, situated next to the pavement and facing west.
The structure has three bays with an end chimney at the north that emerges in front of the ridge. The west front has three windows, with cambered arches over the ground floor openings. The windows are two-light recessed casement types. On the right side, there is a four-panel flush-beaded door, while on the left, a similar door is accessed by two steps and has a fully gabled tiled hood supported by brackets. To the left of the door, there is a canted bay window with sash windows that also lights the basement room at the downhill end of the house.
The rear wall exposes three bays of timber framing with narrow studs and straight braces at the south corner. On the first floor, there are two three-light old casement windows, with two flat-topped dormers above at the eaves that light the same rooms.
