Description

The Spotted Dog Public House is a building that was originally a house, dating from the 17th century or earlier for the eastern part, with the western part from the 18th century. The eastern section has a late 18th-century brick casing, while a 19th-century rear wing has been added. The structure features a timber frame that is now only visible on the upper floor, with the western part constructed of chequered red brick with black headers, and the eastern part made of sandy red brick in Flemish bond. The roofs are steeply pitched, covered with old red tiles, except for the slate roof on the rear wing.

This two-cell, two-storey house faces north, with the western part being one and a half storeys and a long single-storey rear wing at the southeast. The northern front has irregular window arrangements, with the eastern part having three first-floor windows. These are flush box sashes with six-over-six panes and cambered arches, along with two similar windows on the ground floor and one casement window. There is a projecting hood that is now glazed, serving as a lobby. The lower western part has a blocked small upper window and a large internal chimney located near its eastern end. The western end is plastered and features three-light casement windows on each floor, along with a blocked door on the left-hand side. Inside, the building has axial chamfered beams and exposed timber framing on the first floor.
