Description

The well and wellhead located to the rear of Mabbs Farmhouse is a deep well, likely dating from the 16th century, with a wellhead from the 19th century made of cast iron. The wellhead features an elaborate design that includes a geared iron winding mechanism. It is supported by two triangular cast iron trestles, which hold a flanged winding wheel on an axle that is geared to a large circular flywheel. This flywheel has four serpentine spokes and a handle.
