Description
The well and wellhead, located at the north corner with High Road (A10) in Buckland, date from the early 19th century and are made of cast iron. The structure features a large and ornate openwork iron trestle that supports a large flywheel on the south side, which has four serpentine spokes. This flywheel is geared to a larger cogged wheel on a shaft that runs across the top of the trestle, with a large flanged winding wheel positioned at its center. The trestle is constructed from moulded T-section members that create circles and ogee curves. Additionally, there are two wooden brake shoes mounted on pivots at the upper corners of the trestle to control the flywheel's movement.
