Description

Bury House is a house dating from about 1840, located on the south side of the High Street in Hatfield Broad Oak. The house is constructed of red brick with hipped slate roofs and wide eaves. It is two storeys high and has three small stacks projecting through the roof slopes. The front elevation is very nearly symmetrical, featuring two widely spaced, two-storey canted bays with double-hung sash windows incorporating marginal glazing bars. A single similar window sits between the bays over a central projecting Tuscan porch, which is decorated with triglyphs and unfluted columns. An additional bay at the east end has a double-hung sash window above a small, plain casement. A single-storey, plastered building at the rear has a tall ridge stack. The property is enclosed by contemporary iron chains of spiked balls fixed to short cast iron posts, defining a narrow strip of front garden.
