Description

Oak House, formerly known as the Working Men's Institute, is a house with its gable end facing the road. It dates from the 17th century or earlier and features a timber frame that has been refaced in red brick. The building is two storeys high and has a gabled peg tile roof with a small stack on the north gable end. The brick front is constructed in English bond and includes a moulded brick eaves cornice. It has 19th-century casement windows with rectangular leaded lights and segmental arches made of headers. A central plaster panel on the first floor displays the initials P.B. and D.S. along with the date 1973. There is an open 19th-century gabled porch, and some of the internal framing is exposed.
