Description

9 and 11 Bridge Street are a pair of houses dating from the 18th century. They are timber-framed with 19th century painted brick facing and feature a peg tile gambrel roof with a central red brick chimney stack. The original house has a rectangular plan, with a 20th century rear addition. The buildings are two storeys high, with attics and cellars.

The front elevation faces east and has two window ranges with segmental heads, all featuring sliding sash windows. The ground floor windows have six panes by four panes, while the first floor windows have six panes by three panes. The doorways for both houses are located on the north side, alternating with windows. The doorway of No. 9 is boarded with raised battens, while No. 11 has a similar door with an upper glazed panel. Each house has a single dormer window with a swept roof, also with sliding sashes and six panes by three panes. There are low arches for cellar windows.

The rear elevation faces west and features a high gambrel roof with a lower addition and a shared secondary 19th century red brick chimney stack. No. 9 includes a slate-roofed lean-to with a skylight and a back door below, while there is a full two-storey, 20th century flat-roofed brick addition shared with No. 11. Both houses have a 20th century two-light casement window on the ground and first floors, with back doors located at the outer ends of the elevations. These back doors are 20th century with upper glazing, featuring two panes by three panes in the upper sections and lower panels.
