Description
14 and 16 Market Row are two adjoining houses built in the late 18th century. They feature a timber-framed structure with plastered walls and a peg-tiled roof, along with red brick chimney stacks. The houses have a rectangular plan and consist of two storeys, attics, and a cellar.
The north elevation has two similar units beneath a mansard roof, with a total of two windows across the front. On the ground floor, there are two small canted bay windows supported by plastered corbels, with casement glazing arranged in 1x3, 4x3, and 1x3 panes. There is one flush four-panelled door with an upper glazed section for No. 16 and one boarded door with an upper light. The first floor features two three-light casement windows, with No. 16 having moulded architraves and glazing bars, arranged in 6x2 panes. The attics include two flat-roofed dormers; No. 14 has a sliding sash window with 4x3 panes, while No. 16 has an iron casement window with 20th-century leaded glazing.
The east end has a ridge stack, and there is a second stack located behind the roof towards the west. The west end elevation is partially obscured, showing the wall plates and side purlin of the mansard roof, with a simple pitch to the rear and a high single light casement window. The rear of the houses is not visible as they are set into the north re-entrant angle at the back of the White Horse Inn.
