Description
Tudor Cottage, formerly known as Thatched Cottages, is a cottage dating from the early 17th century. It is a single-storey building with attics, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, originally serving as a small hall-house. The cottage has a thatched roof, gabled at the west end and hipped down over the west side. The front features three eyebrow dormers, 20th-century leaded light casements, and a 20th-century lean-to porch. There are two red brick stacks along the ridge line and a large 20th-century extension at the west end. Inside, the cottage showcases an inglenook fireplace, an open hall that reaches the roof, jowled posts, and a serpentine brace in the service wall. The truss over the hall is notable for its 'raised tie-beam' design, with side purlins that include curved wind bracing. The scarf joints are halved and bladed.
