Description
Forest Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid to late 16th century. It is constructed of timber framing and plaster, with a section encased in red brick. The house is arranged in an 'L' shape, with two storeys and a catslide lean-to on the west elevation. The roofs are tiled with peg tiles. A brick plaque dated 1869 is set into the gable end, and there are tall gable end stacks. The south elevation features two early 19th-century cast iron casements over two similar windows with arched brick heads, and a central 20th-century lean-to open porch with a peg tile roof. An early 19th-century doorcase, partly obscured by fluted pilasters, is also present. The east end wall has three cast iron single light casements with small panes and Gothick heads. The rear block has a ridge line stack and a slightly lower ridge line. The original layout likely included a small open hall and a crosswing, exhibiting early features such as straight bracing interrupting studs, jowled posts, and large braces to tie beams. Internally, there is a complete cast iron kitchen range, along with panelling and stairs dating to around 1830.
