Description

Bateman's Tower is a tower built around 1880 for John Bateman. It is constructed from plastered cement blocks on a raft and has an octagonal shape with two storeys. The tower features two-centred arched windows on alternating faces, except for the north face, which has a two-centred arched doorway with a vertically boarded door fitted with strap hinges. Most windows are now blocked, except for the first-floor window facing the sea, which has a small paned cast iron casement.

Originally used as a folly and bathing house, it is believed that the tower was intended to serve as a lighthouse, although plans for a port in the area were never realized.
