Description

The Kings Head is a public house with origins dating back to the 16th century or earlier, with later alterations and additions, including 19th-century restorations. It is timber-framed and has a rough render with batten decoration. The building has a long, red, plain-tiled roof with double-gabled sections facing Ladysmith Avenue. There are red brick chimney stacks on the right side and two located towards the rear of the building, slightly off-centre. The building is two storeys high, featuring a five-window front with widely-spaced vertically sliding sash windows, glazing bars, and shutters. A single-storey red-tiled verandah, supported by posts with arched braces, runs the full length of the building. There are 19th-century doors located on the right, left, and centre. Internally, much of the timber frame is covered by 19th-century boarding, but a 16th-century brick fireplace, a 16th-century moulded ceiling, and bridging joists are visible.
