Description

Frowick Hall is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with later additions and alterations. The building is primarily timber framed and plastered, featuring a painted brick ground floor on the left range, which may have an underbuilt jetty, and a 19th-century brew and bakehouse on the right. It has red plain tiled roofs and four red brick chimney stacks, including one at the rear of the left range from the 16th or 17th century, which has two restored attached diagonal shafts and yellow moulded chimney pots.

The structure has a complex plan with two gabled wings on the left, a set-back central range, and a right range that extends out to the ground floor eaves level. The right return includes a lean-to brew and bakehouse with a bake oven. The house is two storeys high and features a window arrangement of 1:1:2, consisting of various casements and vertically sliding shutters. While many original features have been covered by modern decoration, visible elements include side girts, top plates, original mullions, and windows.

Inside, there are several 18th-century and later features, such as vertically boarded and panelled doors, windows with panelled side shutters, and some vertically sliding shutters. The stick staircase has a wreathed handrail and mouldings on the open string. The hall floor is made of coloured tiles, and there is a good 19th-century moulded ceramic W.C. A black marble fireplace adds to the interior features. One range has a pegged, staggered side purlin roof, while the 19th-century brew and bakehouse includes a copper, a bake oven, and a stone sink.
