Description

Mistley Hall is a house, now functioning as an Acorn Trust Home for disabled people, built around 1846. The structure is made of red brick, with three sides covered in stucco and lined with ashlar. It features hipped grey slate roofs with projecting eaves and has three stuccoed panelled chimney stacks. The building is two storeys tall with a basement.

The east front has three bays, with the central bay projecting forward and topped with a pediment. Each bay contains upper and lower stucco panels. The design includes a square plane with a spur to the southwest and a central dome. The window arrangement consists of a 1:1:1 configuration of small paned vertically sliding sashes. The porch has a flat canopy with enclosed returns, supported by inner columns that have moulded capitals and bases, and steps leading inside. The doors are double glazed.

On the right, the north return mirrors the east front's details but features a central pedimented angled bay. To the west, there is a lower hipped wing with a glazed lantern and open basement lights that have metal grills, likely for a well house. The south face is made of red brick and has a dropped roof level with four bays, three of which are part of the original build. This section has a central door that is accessed by steps from the walled garden, featuring a moulded surround, a dentilled frieze, a flat canopy, reveal panels, and a part glazed door with margins.

Inside, the hall includes six panelled doors with reveal panels, a wreathed stair rail, turned balusters, moulded ceiling cornices, and moulded and panelled ceilings.
