Shop. Mid/late C16. Timber-framed and rendered with gabled concrete interlocking tile roof. 2 storeys with attics. Front has stump of rendered, central ridgeline stack and 2 hipped roofed dormers with 2-light casements. First floor has two C20 double-hung sash windows with 2 vertical glazing bars and a blind window recess. C19 shop front with central canted recessed entrance, cast-iron ventilators over shop front and fascia with consoles at each end. INTERIOR: 2-storey C16 timber frame of 2 equal bays and unjettied. Wall bracing of Colchester type, in NE gable and central end tie beam with wavy arch braces and unusual nailed-on studs. This wall represents an unusually early example of 'economy' carpentry with lower half of studs halved under braces. Roof was of side purlin-type later raised. Joists are stop-chamfered with soffit tenons and there are remains of 2 windows in rear wall, one with ovolo mullions and ancient leaded light glazing in situ with diamond panes nailed to mullions.
