Description

The building is a row of shops with a cottage (No. 14) to the left, known as The Duke Stores and cottage to left, located on St. Osyth Spring Road. It dates from around 1500 or earlier, with later alterations and additions. The structure is timber framed and weatherboarded, while No. 14 and The Duke Stores are faced with gault brick. The roofs are a mix of red plain tiles and pantiles, with red brick chimney stacks serving No. 14 and The Duke Stores.

The building has two storeys and a cellar, featuring a complex plan with two gabled crosswings on the left. The far left crosswing (No. 14) is smaller and set back. The central roofs are at two levels, with the end of the building from the early 19th century faced in gault brick. The right roofs are also at two levels, with the far right roof being pantiled, and the walls are weatherboarded. There are various rear wings attached.

The first floor has a window arrangement of 1:1:2:2:1, while the ground floor has a layout of 1:1:3:2:1. Most windows are vertically sliding shutters with glazing bars, along with 20th-century shop windows on the ground floor to the right. There are four doors from the 19th and 20th centuries. The interior of part of No. 8 features three bays with arched braces to the tie beams, a halved and bridled top plate scarf, and a round-headed doorway on the ground floor.
