Description
The barn at Bouchier's Farm, located approximately 90 metres north of Bouchier's Hall, is a range of two attached barns dating from the 18th century. They are timber framed, covered in weatherboarding, and have roofs made of corrugated iron. Each barn consists of five bays aligned east to west, with a midstrey to the south, and they are joined end to end to create a continuous structure. The eastern barn is the older of the two, as indicated by the external weatherboarding that is now enclosed within the western barn. There are lean-to extensions between and on each side of the midstreys, with large doors on the north and south sides.
The eastern barn features a plinth made of red brick in English bond, approximately 1.5 metres high, along with some arched braces to the tiebeams, bolted knees, and a clasped purlin roof, of which one and a half bays at the eastern end have been rebuilt. The western barn has a plinth of cement-rendered brick about 1 metre high, bolted knees to the tiebeams, and a joggled butt-purlin roof. Both barns exhibit primary straight bracing in their walls.
