Description
Rosedale Cottage is an 18th-century cottage located in Little Totham. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, topped with a red plain tiled double range gambrel roof that includes one flat-headed dormer. The cottage has a right red brick chimney stack and is one storey with attics, accompanied by attached single storey outbuildings to the right and rear. The front has a 1:1 window arrangement of diamond leaded casements. There is an open red tiled porch with a 20th-century half-glazed door to the left. Inside, the cottage retains original board and muntin doors with hand-wrought ironmongery, as well as chamfered bridging joists and exposed ceiling beams. At one time, it operated as a shop, and there is a 19th-century shop window on the left return at the rear. Historical deeds in the owner's possession indicate a fine was imposed for building without permission on Tiptree Heath, which was later remitted after apologies were made. The cottage is attractive and occupies a prominent position in the village.
