Description
Nos 56 to 60 on High Street is a 16th century timber-framed and plastered house that has undergone significant alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features cross wings at both the east and west ends. The central section is faced in painted brick, while the first storey of the east cross-wing is clad in weatherboard. The cross wings are two storeys high, and the central part has one storey with attics. There are various casement windows throughout the building. The central section includes an early 19th century window with glazing bars, which may have served as a shop window, and the east wing has a 20th century shop front. The roofs are tiled, and there is one modern dormer with a sloping roof. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 64 to 70, 74 to 78, No 83, and Nos 93 to 99, along with 93A.
