Description
Woodham Mortimer Hall is a house that dates from the early 17th century for its front range, while the rear range is from the 15th century and has been significantly altered. The front range is constructed of red brick and stucco, while the rear range is timber framed and plastered. The roofs are covered with red plain tiles.
The building features large, partly restored red brick chimney stacks on the left and right sides, as well as a central stack, all with attached diagonal shafts and moulded capping. It has two storeys and attics, with four Dutch gables that have stone coping. The windows are mainly four-light with mullions and transoms, set beneath gauged brick arches with keystones. A moulded band runs beneath the parapet, and there is a four-window range of mainly three-light small paned vertically sliding sashes.
On the left side, there is a two-storey angled bay, and on the right, a rectangular two-storey bay that may have originally served as a porch. The left bay and the ground floor feature rusticated stucco, with stucco window surrounds and keystones. The entrance includes part-glazed double doors beneath a flat canopy supported by brackets.
The off-centre left return has two original moulded brick windows with a central brick mullion, while the rear right range has restored mullions. Inside, notable features include a panelled dado and moulded door surrounds in the hall, as well as three turned balusters on each stair, a moulded open string, and a moulded dado. The original two-arm crown post roof at the rear has been much altered, with halved bracing to the walls and jowled, chamfered storey posts. Mullion slots are visible, and there are halved and bridled top plate scarfs.
