Description

Kitchen Hall Farmhouse is a house from the 17th century that was altered in the early 19th century. It is timber framed and roughcast rendered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The house has three bays aligned approximately east-west, with a southern aspect, and a contemporary rear wing attached to the west bay, creating an L-shaped plan. There is an external chimney stack at the eastern end and an internal chimney stack located behind the western room, aligned with the rear wing. A single-storey extension extends beyond the rear wing, featuring an internal chimney stack at the end, dating to the 19th century. There is also a lean-to extension in the northeast angle, which was originally a half-cellar. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a 20th-century glazed door under a shallow pediment from the early 19th century. On the ground floor, there are two windows, and on the first floor, there are three windows, all of which are double-hung sashes with three lights each, dating from the late 19th century, resulting in an asymmetrical elevation. Inside, there is a central stair hall with an early 19th-century stair featuring a rosewood rail. The large hearth in the western ground floor room has a chamfered lintel with decorative stops from the 17th century. The rear wall of this room has been removed to extend it into the lean-to extension. A beam over the upper western room has ovolo mouldings, and the clasped purlin roof incorporates some earlier timber. The external appearance of the house is predominantly from the 19th century, while some interior details are from the 17th century.
