Description

Marigolds is a late 18th century house on the south side of High Street. It is two storeys high with a five-window front. The roof is a double ridge with four gables and four gable chimney stacks made of gault brick, covered with peg tiles and having bold eaves supported by acanthus leaf modillions. The front wall is of gault brick in a Flemish bond, with five small-paned, hornless sash windows under gauged segmental arches on the first storey. There are two matching sash windows on the ground storey, positioned to the left and right, with a Victorian three-window hexagonal bay between them. A Victorian one-storey and attic addition extends from the west end. The house possibly retains its original front door and surround from the original construction, featuring fielded panels and a radial fanlight, set back behind a round arch and a brick pediment. A low stone front garden wall is topped with Victorian cast iron railings.
