Description

The former George Hotel dates to around 1800. It is constructed of plastered and painted brick with ashlar detailing. The main part of the building is three storeys high with three bays, featuring long and short quoins and bands on the second floor. The second storey has two pairs of small-paned sash windows with a blind central space. The first storey has two matching pairs of sash windows within eared stucco surrounds. A name band is present in an indented sans serif style. The ground floor has a round-headed doorway at the centre, flanked by fluted pilasters, and windows to the left and right within heavy stucco surrounds.

The Fore Street elevation mirrors the main facade, featuring three storeys and two windows. A two-storey building adjoins the west side, with a hipped roof covered in peg tiles. This section has two pairs of small-paned sash windows in stucco surrounds on the first storey, and three small-paned sashes on the ground storey, which are set within Egyptian-style stucco surrounds.
