Description
1 Park Hill is a house that dates from the early 17th century or earlier, but it was refronted in the mid-19th century and refitted in the late 19th century. The building is timber-framed and covered in roughcast, featuring a tiled roof and brick chimneystacks. It has two storeys and attics, with a gabled and jet-tied crosswing to the right, which is one bay wide, along with two additional bays. The mid-19th century windows are sashes with verticals only, set in moulded architraves, and the doorcase has an open pediment supported by brackets. The jet-tied crosswing includes wooden brackets and Tuscan columns.
The rear elevation reveals a concealed original gable, with a later extended gable and 19th-century infilling of an L-shaped building, which includes one 12-pane sash window. Inside, most beams are boxed in, but there is a chamfered beam with a triangular stop. The attic retains some plank and muntin panelling, which may be the original panelling replaced in the 19th century, and a utility room on the ground floor features hand-applied chevron pargetting. The crosswing has a staggered purlin roof, while the other roof appears to have been renovated in the 19th century.
On the ground floor, there are two late 19th-century panelled rooms with fireplaces and a china cupboard, built-in late 19th-century kitchen cupboards, a late 19th-century well staircase with balusters, several cast iron fireplaces, 19th-century panelled doors, and a winder staircase leading to the attic.
