Description
Hill House is a house from the 18th century that was converted into cottages in the 19th century and later combined, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is primarily timber framed and plastered, with some brickwork, and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. It is aligned approximately east-west, featuring a two-storey elevation of plastered timber framing with a short roof pitch to the north, and a single-storey elevation of painted brickwork with a catslide roof to the south. There are two internal chimney stacks in the catslide roof.
To the east, there is a single-storey extension from the 20th century that connects to a coach-house/stable block from the 18th or 19th century, creating an L-shaped plan. The stable block is roofed with 19th-century red clay pantiles. On the south elevation, there are two 20th-century doors, one of which is half-glazed and the other is sheltered by a tiled bracketed hood. Additionally, there are two 19th or 20th-century casement windows, along with an early 19th-century double-hung sash window with nine lights. The building also features two early 20th-century casement windows in gabled dormers.
Originally, the entrance was on the north side, but this has now become the garden elevation, with the main approach from the south. Some of the timber framing is exposed internally, particularly on the ground floor, where transverse beams are plain chamfered with simple concave stops.
