Description

This is a late 19th-century cast iron pump located approximately 15 metres northwest of The Sanctuary on the south side of The Street in Sheering. The pump features an acanthus design on the cap and a finial with a thistle design. The handle ends in a knop. Although the maker's name is illegible, the design is identical to other pumps made by 'G. Ingold, B.Stortford'. The edge of the cap is broken. The pump is situated in a small bay against the eastern boundary of Fox Thatch, which was formerly known as The Thatch.
