Barn Approximately 75 Metres South Of Housham Hall

This is an aisled barn located approximately 75 metres south of Housham Hall, dating from around 1600 and altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It has a timber frame, with walls originally made of timber framing but now rebuilt in brick and covered with roughcast rendering. The roof is made of corrugated iron. The barn consists of six bays aligned approximately northeast to southeast, featuring double doors on the southeast side in the second bay from the southwest. At the southwest end, there is a lean-to extension known as 'the quin-hus'. The barn has half-hipped ends and jowled arcade braces connecting to tiebeams and arcade plates, with a queen strut roof and no aisle shores. The arcade plates show face-halved and bladed scarfs. This barn matches the position of one depicted in the Walker map of Matching from 1609, which may indicate it is the same structure, with the only notable difference being the position of the doors, which are shown as centrally located in the southeast side on the map.
