Description

Lawns is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It is timber framed and rough rendered, featuring gabled and jettied crosswings on both the right and left sides. The building has two storeys and an original window arrangement of five lights with transoms on foliated brackets, with the central window consisting of three lights. The entrance includes a central plank and muntin door flanked by transomed side lights on foliated brackets. A prominent central red brick chimney stack has six tall octagonal shafts, and there is another matching chimney with three shafts to the left. The original barge boards are present on the gables.

Inside, the house features stop-chamfered bridging joists and beams in the main frame. There are some notable late 17th-century mouldings in the rear room, along with a contemporary corner cupboard and a moulded fire surround. An ovolo mullion window is also present. The house includes 18th-century doors and various details from a facelift around 1820 to 1830, which includes an office extension at the rear with a three-light window, doors, and a brick cellar, as well as vertical bead boarding in one room. The ground floor has brick floors, while the first floor retains large original floorboards.
