Description
Wooton Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with significant alterations made in the late 19th century. The left side of the building is timber-framed, featuring painted brick on the ground floor and tile-hanging in a fish-scale pattern on the first floor. The right-hand end is constructed of red brick. The roof is plain tiled, hipped with a gablet at the left end, and includes a gabled cross-wing at the rear, which has a steeper pitch than the roof on the right. There are stacks at both the left end and the right ridge. One bay of the original late 16th or early 17th-century frame remains. The house has two storeys with irregular window arrangements on both levels, featuring casements. In the centre, there is a two-storey gabled square bay with notched barge-boards. To the right of the centre, there are single-storey additions from the 20th century, including a porch. Inside, there is substantial evidence of the framed bay, with exposed posts, joists, and beams, as well as a cambered tie-beam on the first floor. The interior also features a simple L-plan wooden staircase, which may date from the 18th century.
