Description
The barn at Gallybird Hall is a 16th-century threshing barn with some minor alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed from timber framing made of oak and is clad in weatherboarding. The barn features a hipped roof that is now covered with 20th-century corrugated asbestos sheets. The front has a narrowed central doorway, while the rear has a partially boarded cart door and a single 20th-century inserted window located between the framing. There is a lean-to extension on the south side with a sheet metal roof.
Inside, the main barn consists of three bays. The wall frame retains its principal timbers, including a midrail with curved braces. Some areas have 20th-century timbers that support the weatherboarding. The structure includes jowled upright posts that hold three curved tension braces and angled queen struts. The purlins and paired rafters are pegged at the top and do not have a ridgepiece. Additionally, there are some supplementary 20th-century timbers of thin scantling that support the corrugated roof sheets.
