Description
Hobbans Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with a 15th or 16th century wing at the rear right. It features a timber frame, with pargetted plaster on the ground floor and weatherboard on the first floor. The roof is hipped and covered with red plain tiles. The building has two storeys, with a three-window range of 19th century small paned casements on the first floor and two 20th century casements on the ground floor. Original 17th century leaded windows can be found at the rear.
The farmhouse has a central gabled porch with a tiled roof, which contains a 20th century door with small paned lights. A central chimney stack made of red and gault brick features an original red brick back-to-back fireplace; one side has a brick Tudor arch, while the other has a mantel beam and remnants of an inserted oven. There are matching fireplaces on the first floor. The front range consists of two bays and a smoke bay, supported by jowled storey posts and stop-chamfered beams, and includes two mullion windows. The rear range has collars on every rafter pair, although the crown post is not visible. The floor is laid with red brick in a herringbone pattern.
