Description
The Ongar Bell Public House is a public house that dates from the 18th century or earlier, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century and later. The building features a timber frame that is partly plastered and partly covered with sunk chamfered weatherboard. It has a grey slate roof that is hipped to the right. To the right, there is a carriageway that is set back, with a small paned oriel window above it, and batten decoration located below this window. The main part of the building is two stories high and has a three-window range, featuring 18th-century double hung small paned sliding sashes set in moulded surrounds. The central entrance is a half-glazed door flanked by fluted pilasters, with paterae on the frieze and a flat canopy above. There are also two red brick chimney stacks.
