Description

This is a mid-18th century house located on Hastingswood Road, North Weald Bassett. The house is timber-framed and has been plastered, with a roof covered in handmade red clay tiles. The original part of the house dates from the mid-18th century and runs approximately north-east to south-west, facing northwest. It has an external chimney stack at the northeast end and an internal chimney stack at the southwest end, with a hipped roof. A parallel range was added in the mid-19th century to the southeast, again with a hipped roof, and two internal chimney stacks. This later range formed the main entrance front. A single-story extension has been added to the east. The house is two stories high and the northwesterly elevation features a plain entrance door with a fixed window above it. It has a three-window arrangement of double-hung sash windows dating from the early 19th century; two windows have 16 panes of glass each and one window has 12 panes of glass on each floor.
