Description
Shermans is a Grade I listed building, constructed around 1735. It features two storeys and attics with a basement, showcasing an elaborate Suffolk brick front adorned with ornate red dressings, pilasters, and a dentil cornice. The roof is T-shaped, with a single red brick chimney located at the rear. On the first floor, there is a central niche framed by Ionic pilasters and a pediment. The parapet is ramped up to hold a painted sundial at its center. The façade includes a two-window range of small paned sash windows, each with aprons and arches made of rubbed brick. The central doorcase is highlighted by a dentilled pediment and Corinthian pilasters, situated above a flight of steps. The front design is modeled after the east wing of the Grammar School built in 1732, but it is more elaborate. Inside, the building features contemporary panelling and a staircase.
