Description

Shakespeare House is a 16th century building with later additions, featuring attics and cellars. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with peg-tiled roofs. The front of the house has four gables, all finished with roughcast and exposed timbers. The ground floor includes shop windows beneath a shallow pediment, which is decorated with trefoiled cusping within spandrels. These elements are said to have originated from Boxted Church, although they are more likely of Gothic design. Inside, there are some details from the 17th century.
