Description
The Marlborough Head Inn and Loom House is a 14th century building with later additions, featuring two storeys and cellars. It is constructed with an oak frame and plastered exterior, displaying a complex plan that includes at least three units. The south front is parapetted and has quoining in 18th century plaster, with an eaves band beneath the parapet of the Loom House, which has a four-window range of sash windows, some of which are small-paned. The eaves cornice of the Marlborough Head is modillioned, and the roofs are covered with peg tiles.
Inside the Marlborough Head, there are signs of a former longwall jetty facing Mill Lane, with exposed joists that have soffit-tenons dating from the 14th century. The dining room, located at the corner of Mill Lane and High Street, features finely carved bridging joints and a dragon beam, along with vine-trails and quatrefoiled cusping from around 1450, indicating evidence of a corner jetty.
