Description
Gould House is an 18th-century building located on the north side of Dedham High Street. It is three storeys high and features a five-window range, with a stone-coped parapet above a Flemish bonded painted brick front. The central entrance is accessed by six stone steps and is framed by Doric columns and a pediment that includes triglyphs and patera, with mutules on the pediment. On either side of the entrance are two modernised sash windows, and on the first storey, there are five windows with one glazing bar each. The second storey has a central Diocletian window flanked by small-paned sash windows. The east end of the house has a contemporary rainwater head. The building has cellars beneath it. Inside, there is good contemporary panelling from around 1740 made of softwood, with fire surrounds displaying both classical key patterns and Gothic motifs. The curved staircase features bracketted tread-ends and a hardwood rail. The front rooms on the ground storey have key-patterned ceiling cornices made of pine.
