Description
The Old Grammar School and Well House, rebuilt in 1732, is a significant two-storey building with attics and cellars. It features a double-span mansard roof covered in slate and tile on the west wing, while the east wing has a tile roof. The structure is made of gault brick with intricate red brick detailing, including pilasters, a dentil cornice, and a niche above the central doorway on the north side. The east wing is adorned with a curved pediment and fluted Doric pilasters. The west wing has a five-window range with small-paned sash windows, segmental rubbed brick arches, and rubbed brick aprons, now fitted with external shutters. The north front displays a nine-window range of small-paned sashes, some of which are original, with arched ground floor windows. A parapet ramps up over the niche, and there is a central wooden doorcase with a segmental pediment and an inscription above that reads, "Thomas Grimwood Hujus Scholae Magister 1732."
