Description

Lower Farm Barn is a late 17th century barn consisting of 16 bays. It stands on red brick footings laid in English bond, which are 25 courses high and twice offset. The barn is clad in black weatherboards and features a thatched, ridged and gabled roof. There are two gabled midstreys facing north and a later open lean-to on the west side. The roof valleys are covered with peg tiles. The south side has great doors, while the gable ends have drying doors. The barn includes primary bracing but lacks side-girts, featuring hanging-knees, lapped collars, and side-purlins. Arch-braces are present only by the central midstry.
