Description
The Castle House is a building that dates from the 15th to 17th century and has undergone significant alterations. The western part of the house likely originates from the 15th century, while the southern side is from the 16th or 17th century. It features early 17th century painted decoration that was recently discovered but is currently concealed, located on the first floor. The house was probably the residence of a leading clothier, similar to other houses in Dedham. There are many later additions, including an interesting domed music room from the early 19th century. The Castle House was the residence of the late Sir Alfred Munnings, who was the President of the Royal Academy, and it houses his art collection.
