Description
No 12 Cooper's Lane is a cottage dating from the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber frame, with sections of painted brick, render, and black weatherboarding. The roof is gabled and covered in clay pantiles, with one large truncated ridge stack and two smaller stacks. The building has one storey with attics, including two lean-to dormers on the front elevation. The windows are a mix of double hung sash windows with small panes and horizontal sliding casements. At the rear, there is a single storey brick washhouse or outhouse with a gabled pantile roof. The cottage has four bays of substantial timber framing, with heavy jowled posts and signs of arch bracing. The rear wall displays very close studding and a halved and bridled scarf joint in the top plate. The roof structure is fairly complete and is either of collar and rafter type or a simple crown post roof with collar purlins removed.
