Description
The Old Cock and Pye Inn is a building with origins in the 16th and 17th centuries, featuring wings at the rear that were refronted in the 18th century. The original plan is half H-shaped, comprising two storeys, attics, and cellars, with tiled roofs. The 18th-century front block is constructed of red brick and includes a parapet, a stucco band between the storeys, and a seven-window range of double hung sashes with glazing bars. Number 56 has a three-window range and a stuccoed front, with a modern ground floor shop window and another modern shop window that fills the old cart entrance. Number 55 features a flight of steps leading to the front door, which has one handrail. The north-west wing has been restored, exposing the timber-framing and some original window openings, with the upper storey projecting on the north side. Numbers 55 to 60 form a group.
