Description
The Bay and Say Public House, located at 126 High Street, was built in 1904 by G H Page for the Colchester Brewing Company. This building features an ashlar facade in the Baroque style, with some Art-Norwegian detailing in the doors and windows. It stands three storeys high and has three bays, characterized by full-height pilasters and a crowning pediment. The ground floor is grooved, with a cornice at each level, and the pediment is adorned with modillions all around. The pediment is interrupted over the central bay by a semi-circular feature with a Gibbs surround, and there are small pediments above the outer bays. The ground floor includes two three-light bar windows and a central arched doorway with a carved head keystone and an iron grille. The first floor features three oriel windows, while the upper floor has sash windows with pilaster surrounds. The roof is not visible, and the interior has been modernized.
